Wooddale 1929-1979 - 50 Years

              OUR FIRST FIFTY YEARS - WOODDALE W. I.
June IS, 1929, was a very important day in the lives of many
women in the Wooddale, Monte Vista districts and Rimbey area.
" A meeting for the organization of a Women's Institute at Wooddale
School was called to order by Mrs. Fred Ellsworth, visiting president
of Center Valley Women's Institute, who acted as chairman/ ( From

Officers elected at that first meeting were:
President Mrs. Pat Bowen
Vice- Presidnet Mrs. M. S. ( Florence) Aunger
Secretary- Treasurer Esta Stuart
Auditors Mrs. Pobcrt MacKenzie
Mrs. T. A. Crommie
Directors Mrs. D. A. Stuart
Mrs. Crommie
Miss Blanche Brooks
'' A vote of thanks to the five Center Valley Ladies, Mrs. Fred
Ellsworth, Mrs. Joe Diggle, Mrs. Ed Ellsworth, 3nd Mrs. L. A. Gunnell,
who so kindly helped us in our organization was carried unanimously.''
Fifty years later, we are even more grateful to those five ladies
( Mrs. Joe Diggle now lives in the Kansas Ridge Apartments in Rimbey).
Others signing the roll as Charter members were Mildred Crommie,
Mrs. C. H. Stewart, Mrs. William Stuart, and Mrs. Johnson ( 1.
By motion the annual membership fee was set at 25$ and '' at each
meeting we have a receptacle in a conspicuous place for free will
offering.
Quilting activities were started that first year, and are even
now a main project and source of funds. Since 1971, we have earned
about$ 2,100 and what good times we've had around the quilts I Through
the years, we have given ouilts to fire victims, cold bachelors -
wherever we saw a need.
Our first bride was Mildred Crommie, one of our Charter members,
who married Jack Manson. In September, 1930, included in bills
paid' was " set of knives - $ 4.50." Lorna Dentman ( Mrs. Ken Adams)
