ALBERTA WOMEN'S INSTITUTES COMPETITION DISTRICT AND PROVINCIAL LEVEL CONVENTION THE ALBERTA WOMEN'S INSTITUTES WILL AWARD CASH PRIZES IN EACH FIVE DISTRICTS AND ONE PROVINCIAL CONVENTION FOR THE FOLLOWING ARTICLES: ARTICLES: CHOOSE FROM: Tea Cloth ( minimum 34". maximum 54".) Table Center or Runner ( any practicle size) Set of Four Place Mats ( minimum 12" X 18".) Cushion Cover ( any shape ready to be filled) Wall Hanging ( not rigid or mounted, but free hanging, ready for use) MATERIALS: Must be worked with a six strand thread embroidery cotton ( anynumber of strands) or Pearl cotton ( no 5 or 8) on fabric suitable for the work. No stamped pattern. Or for Crochet & knit in size 30 or 40 crochet cotton. TECHNIQUES: Crewel, counted thread, cross stitch, ( no stamped pattern) drawn thread, drawn fabric, Swedish darning ( huck weaving), hardanger, crochet or knit, Brazilian embroidery,, embroidery. PRIZES: District Level: ( See rules: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,) 1st-$ 10.00 2nd-$ 7.00 3rd - $ 5.00 Provincial Level: ( See rules: 8,9,10.11,) 1st-$ 25.00 2nd-$ 15.00 3rd-$ 10.00 RULES: 1. DISTRICT COMPETITION: Only one entry will be allowed in the Alberta Women's Institutes Competition 2. All entries must have been made since May of the previous year. 3. Articles entered in the A. W. I, competition. CAN NOT be entered in the regular classes of the Provincial Handicraft Competition. 4. Write A. W. I. competition on the outside of the envelope and indicate your DISTRICT NUMBER also indicate how much of the work is original ( eg. completely original, chose own colours, adapted design, etc.) Inside write name, address of sender, & phone #, and their branch. Attach securely to upper left hand corner of the article. ANY ARTICLE NOT FOLLOWING ABOVE INSTRUCTIONS WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. 5. All entries will be sent to the Convention ( just prior). Watch Home & Country1 for mailing details. 6. Insure your parcel, Postal insurance covers for loss only, and not for damage to articles. Therefore, do wTap well in sturdy boxes and secure with durable tape. Please ad\ ise the Provincial Handicraft Co- ordiantor by letter of the parcel shipment and be sure to arrange to have your article collected from the Provincial Competition. 7. Judging will be done by QUALIFIED PROVINCIAL JUDGES and a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize will be awarded in each district. 8. The 1st & 2nd prize winners at District level will be eligible to compete in the Provincial level of A. W. I, competition. 9. Judging at the Provincial level will be done by QUALIFIED PROVINCIAL JUDGES and only one 1st. one 2nd. and one 3rd prize will be awarded. 10 All articles must be picked up by a branch member. 11 After three ( 3) years of winning at the Provincial level, exhibitor is eliminated at that level, this is to encourage more participation.
