Home and Country Summer 2007 President's Address Darlene Wicks, President D oes what you see affect your attitude and your attitude then affects your behaviour? If we think about a person who is constantly told they cannot do anything they will end up with low self-esteem. This leads them to a defeatist attitude. It will make their behaviour negative and they will not try to do anything. I am sure that this works for people watching violence on television or playing violent games. If this is all that they see it will affect their attitude about violence and will affect their behaviour when they are angry or upset. I think this is a subject that we all need to discuss. Ladies your help and generosity in donating clothing and sewing bags for "On Eagles Wings" is greatly appreciated as mentioned by AnnE Zimmerman. She spoke at the A.W.I. Convention and brought us information about the north. We hope to continue with our project "Adopt a Village" and will have more information later on this project. Our evening entertainment was Kelly Buelow, a cowboy poet, telling us about his life and experiences in Alberta and British Columbia. We had our own Olga Brown and group wearing aprons, sing a song and ending with the aprons becoming bonnets. To conclude the entertainment Mabel Cordell read a poem about Gramma's Rocking Chair. During the banquet the Sophie Miles Award for a new member was presented to Linda Mason of the Cottonwood Branch. The Cornelia Railey Wood award at the Lloydminster Lakeland Campus was presented to Corrie Schwab of Wilkie, Saskatchewan. Brenda Willsie attended the Olds College where Miranda Grymalcki from Vermilion Bay, Ontario received the Georgina Stivens McDonald award. Zella saw the paper from the Fairview College that showed the various award winners. wi Acting President Elect Zella Pimm, Acting President Elect A s my project I will take on starting to plan for Alberta Women's Institutes 100th birthday in 2009.
