Home and Country Summer 2004 A Look to the Future Phyllis Kosik, President Elect Dates & Deadlines Fall Home & Country ........... 1October Resolutions Deadline ......... 1 December Creative Writing Deadline .... 15 March Spring Home & Country .......... 1 April Summer Home & Country ........ 1 July FWIC Conference 2006 .... 14-17 June I have been reviewing some of the reports received since the first part of May, this year. I must congratulate you on how you are reporting at more regular intervals. I am pleased that so many of you are trying to incorporate the public into some of your meetings. This is what the government wants us to do. I know from your reports throughout the past year that some of you tried the town hall type meetings. Some were successful and some were not. Keep trying folks! It may just have been a bad time or a bad topic for your area. We have had success here in Darwell, no matter what our topic. I think it was Burdett in the south was successful with senior's abuse. Some have found that a fundraiser along with information is a good way to get a crowd out. If you have had some success in this please let us know your methods, so that we can pass them on. The Government seems to be concerned that we are learning a lot, but not passing it on to our communities. Have you any ideas as to some other methods of passing on our knowledge? We have a lot of competition for our neighbour's attention with so many groups in each community. Can we be innovative in the way we organize and advertise our events? Can we make ours sound more interesting? These are things to study when you are planning a public forum of any kind. You have to choose a topic that will interest more than half of the people in order to get one quarter of the people out to your meeting. Choose many types of advertising. Don't forget the most effective is word of mouth, if you are not excited about it why should anyone else be?wi Provincial Handicraft Prize List 2004 Knitting Pat Vantetering .......... Bancroft W.I. Thank you ladies for all of your hard work. An issue has been brought to my attention regarding the finished requirement for some stitchery. It is with regards to E1 and whether the backs of the work should be shown or closed in. Some discussion took place about this matter so you will read the results in the next Home and Country. There has to be a decision made by Council. Even though I will not be Handicraft Coordinator next year I will be at the Convention The Good Lord willing. Thank you to the many hands that helped me over the three years that I have been here. Many ladies have helped me to understand the role of my office, I just wish that the term was longer so one could really learn the job and be very good at it. Now it is with great pleasure that I have the honour of presenting this year's handicraft winners. In closing thank you all very much and God Bless.wi Mary Colley ................ Acadia W.I.
