The following are recommendations passed at the ACWW Convention in Hobart, Tazmania in 2004. If you have any questions about these recommendations, please write to me. 1. That member societies focus on the consequences that we see today, of developments in farming and the food industry, and contribute to the awareness and changes in policy through focusing on these questions. 2. That member societies are urged to promote peace and security by including a `culture of peace' in education so that armed conflicts will be resolved through preventative diplomacy and tolerance. 3. That member societies work to seek international agreements among governments to reduce the conditions that impede the progress of developing countries, which need to receive donated equipment, supplies and humanitarian aid. 4. That member societies encourage their governments to strengthen legislation dealing with groups and individuals who destroy crops and research labs or free animals under the misguided notion of protecting the environment and animals concerned.wi he quilt block challenge has been a huge undertaking and rather overwhelming. I expected about 100 quilt blocks and to date I have 523. I thank everyone who has taken part in the project. Your quilt blocks are beautiful and unique. When I said any technique, I got just that. Thanks to the branches who are putting the quilts together: Roundhill WI, Burdett WI, Angus Ridge WI, Vahalla WI, Alix WI, Lougheed WI, Kanata WI, Ridgewood WI, Wescott WI, Jackson WI, Abee WI, Pine Lake WI, Lacombe Four Point WI, Cottonwood WI, Little Red Deer Dorcas WI, and Cool Crafts Girls' Club. Thanks as well to Coburn WI and Gordon WI who have already completed a quilt. I was thrilled to receive permission from the Alberta Government to display one quilt in the Alberta Legislature. I anticipate it to be finished by February 19, 2005 for a special presentation to them. Life, like a quilt, creates something new by rearranging the pieces.wi Quilt Pockets Blanche Cunningham, District 5 Director Q uilt pockets are fun to make aren't they? Make one and you want to make more. I have received just over 300, so if you want to make a quilt pocket get it in to me as soon as possible. Only 50 more to go! Thank you so much for working on this project.wi 4
