C Celebrate Alberta O ur Province is named after Princess Louise Alberta, the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria and wife of the Marquis of Lorne, Canda's Governor General from 1878 - 1883. In 1881, the Governor General and Princess Louise visited The North West Territories which had been ceded to Canada by the Hudson's Bay Company in 1870. In 1882, the North West Territories were divided into four districts, Assiniboia, Athabasca, Saskatchewan and Alberta. The District of Alberta was named by the Marquis of Lorne. The inspiration for the name is found in a verse he dedicated to his wife. olchester Branch recently became a victim of its own success. The increasing membership, 19 currently, meant that to host meetings in member 's homes was just no longer feasible. Colchester Branch had long since discontinued its involvement with Colchester Hall that they established in partnership with the Community League in the 1960s and 70s. So what to do and where to meet? The newly built Glenwood Memorial Gardens Home in Sherwood Park came to the rescue by providing a free venue! Meetings are now hosted in a beautiful new building with lots of parking, no steps or stairs, easy wheelchair access, bright sparkling bathrooms, access to video equipment and free coffee, tea and juice! At first the location was the source of some hilarity but we now enjoy all the amenities along with the views of pond, geese and gardens. We can also visit our departed loved ones, and departed members before or after the meetings. If your W.I. branch is looking for a new meeting location try approaching your local funeral home as they will frequently be more than happy to accommodate you at no cost!wi Quilt Raffle Quilt Made by Alix WI Burdett WI Jackson WI (yellow) Angus Ridge WI Pine Lake WI Roundhill WI Valhalla WI Lougheed WI Kanata WI Ridgewood WI Raffled by & Contact PersonPhone In token for the love which thou has shown For this wild land of freedom, I have named A Province vast, and for its beauty famed, By thy dear name to be hereafter known, Alberta shall it be!
