THE STORY OF THE ALBERTA WOMEN'S INSTITUTES it resolved that the Women's Institute Advisory Board include such an officer". During 1924, provision was made for such an officer and NIiss Isobel Noble was appointed Women's Institute Supervisor of the Alberta Women's Institute Girls' Clubs. The FIFTH ANNUAL CONVENTION of the A.W.I.G.C. was not held jointly with the A.W.I. as formerly. It was held at Lake Edith Camp, Jasper, July 2-4, 1924, with Miss Noble supervising. The chief speaker was Miss Esther Thompson, organizer of the Boys' and Girls' Clubs of the Saskatchewan Homemakers. The membership fee for the Provincial Fund was changed from fifty cents to twenty-five cents. :\lrs. Stavert, of Calgary, was convener of a committee which drafted the A.W.I.G.C. Creed which has been used by the clubs since that time. The SIXTH ANNUAL CONVENTION was held in Banff, Julv 2-6. 1925 with Miss Noble, provincial supervisor in charge. CompetItions were held for the best bread, kitchen apron, darning, essay, and club report. Pictures were given winners in each competition. The SEVENTH ANNUAL CONVENTION was held at Lake Edith, Jasper, July 8-11, 1926 with Miss Noble again supervising. Competitions were held, as well as lectures and demonstrations, hikes and sight-seeing trips. The EIGHTH ANNUAL CONVENTION was held at Banff, July 6-10, 1927, with Miss Noble in charge and Mrs. J. MacGregor Smith the new W.I. Girls' Club supervisor visiting. Contests were for the most athletic girls, for taking most active part in discussions, for the secretary having done the best reporting for the year, and for the delegate coming the greatest distance and for the best group. Up to this time, the provincial government had financed the greater portion of the costs of the A.W.I. and A.W.I.G.C. conventions. In 1928, by an amendment to the Act respecting Women's Institutes. the A.W.I. and A.W.I.G.C. were put on their own resources. The A.W.I.G.C. having no funds to finance a convention, none was held that year But early in the autumn of 1928 plans were made for a convention to be held the following summer. The NINTH CONVENTION of the A.W.I.G.C. was held in St. Joseph's College, Edmonton, July 10-26, 1929 with 80 delegates and guests registered. Mrs. J. MacGregor Smith, the provincial supervisor was in charge. The Nellie McClung Public Speaking Trophy was first awarded at this convention and was won by Grace Eastly, Sedgewick. speaking on the subject, "The League of Nations". The Emily Murphy Athletic Trophy was also first awarded at this time to Mary Boychuk, Round Hill. That year also, the A.W.L Girls' Clubs began to print the report -69-
