Branch, or it could be just held for one year and then competed for again. Send copies of the program to the Branches ahead of time so they will know what interesting items are planned for day. Be sure something of interest is included. Honor Life Members at the Conference with Corsages, dedicate items of entertainment to them, and seat them at the head table for luncheon or banquet. Introduce Past Constituency Conveners ,they would appreciate being remembered. Invite non-members to attend the Conference. Have a Constituency Project if possible and a report of progress at Conference time. Handicraft and Baking competition adds much interest and always allow ample time to view the displays. . "Suggestions for Other Displays-Old Crafts; Crafts from Other Lands; Paintings, Precious Stones; Souvenir Collections (i.e. Coffee Spoons, Salt and Pepper Sets, Tea Towels; etc.), Homemade Table Centre Pieces; House Plants; Garden Bouquets; Publications including AW.I., F.W.I.C., AC.W.W., Health Department, Agriculture Department, Education, etc. Have AW.I. Girls' Club Displays. At DISTRICT Conferences have a Map of the District, with boundaries, division into Constituencies and Branches named in each. Constituency Convener wears a colored n'bbon or flower for her area." "Themes for Conferences, Conventions and Programs-Have one dominant thought running through the whole, giving unity, emphasis and strength. Here are some that have been used: 'Nothing Without Labor; Looking Forward; Ideas Plus Action; The World at Our Door; Looking Outward Together; Challenges of Yesterday and Today; Live to Learn, Learn to Live; New Era, New Effort; Looking Ahead-Yesterday's Vision, Today's Action, Tomorrow's Achievement; Resources For Tomorrow(Conversation); The Challenge of Tomorrow; Widening Our Horizons: We Build; Stepping Forward and Building Better Branches. "Suggestions for a Constituency Convener's Panel-Some questions to have answered: 1. How many Branches in your Constituency? Is Membership up or down? 2. What percentage subscribe to Home and Country? 3. What interesting Roll Calls have you had? How many Branches have had guest speakers? Who? What Topics? 5. How many Branches have had demonstrations? What kind? 6. Name some interesting topics dealt with. 7. How many Branches have helped their communities? (Halls, etc.); 8. What were some of your more successful ideas for raising money? 9. Do your Branches take time for fun at Meetings? What do they enjoy most? 10. What projects have your Branches undertaken? Is there anything else you would care to add?" Suggestions from Branches for Successful Conferences or Conventions-Have a skit on 'How Not to Conduct a W.I. Meeting.' Have a Committee Representative of each Branch, plan a Constituency picnic. Hold a Handicraft Tea separate from the Conference, serve tea and charge. Celebrate Constituency Anniversary with a Birthday Tea, having each table decorated to represent a month of the year and guests sit at the table of the month of their Birthdays. Encourage more visiting between Branches. Have picnics and parties. Hold Baking contests as well as Handicraft contests at Constituency Conferences. Make all reports concise and interesting. Have Panel Discussions and outside Speakers at Conferences. Observe 25th and 50th Anniversaries of Branches. Have Delegates sit Alphabetically to mix them up. Dress up a Conference Queen, using colored paper and ribbon, write a song about her using a familiar tune. Plan for more audience participation. Have Mystery Pals at Conventions found by matching numbers. Invite people with special talents to entertain at Conventions. Pay special 44
