[mitation-think of the word a minute. Adults imitate others, teenagers imitates the latest star to arise in the theatrical world, children imitate parents. As only the best is worth copying, let us try to look this old world
squarley in the face.
'.
There is a story told of an old man who invariably stood at the village pump, greeting travellers who stopped for a drink. He was often asked what kind of people lived in the village. In replying, he would first ask, "What kind of people were there where you came from?" Sometimes the stranger would say, "They were a nasty, interfering lot, always poking their noses into other people's business." Another would say, "Oh, they were a very kindly and hospitable people." The wise old man invaria:blysaid, "You will find them the same here." Isn't it true? It is all in the way we look at things. Let us give to the world the best we have and surely the best will come back to us fourfold. As Members of the Women's Institutes and Mothers in our homes, let us remember:
MOTHER "A careful Mother I want to be For little children mimic me; I do not dare to go astray For fear they'll go the self-same way. "I cannot once escape their eye Whatever they see me do, they try; Like me they say, they are going to be, Those little ones, that mimic me. "They think that I am good and fine Believe in every word of mine. The base in me, they must not see Those little ones that follow me. "I must remember as I go Through summer's sun and winter's snow That I am building for years to be Those little ones that mimic me."
WE Are Bunden There never, never was a more difficult time to promote goodwill and understanding. The world is full of tension and nations are thinking of themselves. What about us as W.I. Members and our thoughts of tolerance and understanding? True, we cannot stem these tensions, but when a builder builds a dam, he also builds a spillway so the water does not break the dam. That we can do, we can build a spillway to relieve tensions and pressure so they do not build into wars and revolutions. We can build these spillways in our homes, community and Society. We can build spillways of understanding, tolerance and respect for others. We can build spillways of faith and love, faith in ourselves and love for others.
