Touth Section, XT.L.F.TJ^., had been
vlsited. Approximately 200 subs for
the Young Worker and 135 subs for
the "Yoimg Comrade" had been
raised.
The nural units, though to a great
extent ideologicaUy weak, are none the
less rapidly devoloping ' local leader-ship.
In the xurban units, a leading
cadre is rising. The Dlstrict Com-mlttees
are crystallizing themselves,
the units begining to mo*e reallstically
grasp their tasks. A def inite advance
over the position of last year can be
noted. At the same time we have to
face the task of giving the units a
greater lead from the centre, of
assigntog definite tasks and objectives.

With the rapid development of
ratlonializatioti In Canadian Industry,
larger numbers of youth are being
absorbed into the factories. displacing
adult workers. That the"problem of
the working youth is becoming a
greater one every'year can to some
extent be seen from the rcaction to
it by the Trades Congress of Canada.
For years the Y . C l i . of Canada has
been demanding action on the part
of the Trades Ccaagress i n seriously
approiching the organlzation of the
young workers, and h%s been maklng
specific economic youth demands.
Theise demands have been ignored by
the Trades Congress. In the March
issue of the "Canadian Congrtes Jour­nal,"
a half page series of demands
for young workers is published. (Eki
note: We will deal with this i n a later
issue.) I t remains to be seen how ac-tivdy,
if at ali, the Trades Congress
wUI push these demands, what there
is of them. However, the main polnt
is that even the r e a c t i o n i s begln-ning
to feel that there Is a yöuth
problem and that i t Is entering an
important stage. Our activity among
the Industrial youth has been ihade-
Quate. It is essential that we i m -
mediately proceed with an energetic
programme of organlzation of the un-organized
jrauth. the struggle for high-er
wages and shorter hour5,-the fight
agalnst imemployment, hi short, that
we proletarianize the Y.CJL, that we
enter upon a new campaign for the
struggle agaiiist the ^effects of ratio-nalizatlon
upon the youth, that we
make organic contacts with the mas-ses
of youth in'the basic Industries of
the country,

On the polltical field, It becomes
more apparent that as a reult of
the prestige the young Communist
movement Is gainlng among' greater
numbers öf workers, as a " result of
the politlcal degeneration of the for-ces
of the Right Wing (in Ontario
partlcularly) the social democratic
class-collaboratlonlst forces Ih the
Labour movement wlll attempt to
breathe a "new splrit" into their own
scabby and decreaplt carcas by ineans
of setting up a ftlght Wing youth
orgaiilzatlon. Certain writlngs In the
Right WIng press Indicate this sy6ip-tom.
The nature of such an organl­zation
(if ever It comes into bping)
will essentlaUy be i n the naturie of
other Right WIng youht organimtions.
