Club News reports on Liittoj uhla preparations one would frequehtly get;the yearning to pack up and head for Sudbury. Many of us out here in the West have had that feeling, r m sure.^ The Sisu Folk Dancers, for, instance, would be fhrilled to meet other Finnish-Canadiän giroapd'pariicipä-ting in the Liittoj uhla Concert. The dancers have in their short life span made many appearances but of course the Liittojuhlas r— that would really besomething. 1^:: • And höw about the track and field people who are working out twice a week in preparation for a meet on August 19th at the Finnish Organi-zation Picnic. It was this same group which won: some glory for the Vancouver Finnish Cömmunity by capturing enough points at the' Canada Day Youth- Sports Meet to tie for first place. Their most note-worthy achievement of the day was winning the volley ball tournament. The Canada Day meet and other meets that Sisu willbe participating in during the summer are good and lots of fun —: but participating in the Liittojuhlas would be iomething else entirely. It;would really be somelhing to be able to meet Yritys or Isku on the volley bäll court or to be able to run against top Finnish-Canadian athletes from ali over Ontario. Win or lose, that would really be something.. But this year it must remain as a happy thought. The best that we can do at this time is to wish ali Liittojuhla participants the best of luck in a very big and successful affair. .We from the West Coast will be with you only in spirit for the time being. the only sports meet in the year when they have an
öpportunity to try themselves against the best athletes in

They say winning a championship at the Liittojuhlas gives
a person a great deal of satisfaction and we believe i t After
[ali it does take considerable training to get into shape to win
against stiff competition and a gold medal at the Liittojuhlas

Despite this satisfaction of winning, we feel that the most

But of course a body cannot stay healthy on sports alone.
wholesome diet must be prbvided,.proper housing-and

nation. That is one of the reasons why the FGASF has always
[been sympathetic to labor unions and other organizations,
hich have done SO much to raise the economic conditions of

ental state is also a gröatiactor in maintaining good health,
iand that is why the Sports Federation has gone on record for
uch things as a national health pian and Security.
The Sports 'Federation has also expressed itself as being
gainst wars and for a peaceful world in which sports can
lourish as can also the ingenuity of man;for a better world.
The policies of the Sports Federation will be under dis-sion
on Monday, August 6, 'when the annual convention of
e Federation vvillconvene. This is the main policymaking
ody of the Federation and ali important decisions must be
ade at the convention. Numerous clubs have made propo-als
to the convention and Jheseproposals have undoubtedly

The most controversial question to be taken up by the
lonvention is the proposal by Yritys that the music and sports
estivals be combined into one big annual festival of Finnish-anadians.
This proposal has it's pros and cons and it is diffi-ult
to ascertain the affects a combined festival will have.
,However, we areof theopinion^that an experiment^ould

re for such a combined festival and it is time that an experi-ent

Some discussion will also be devoted'to the examination
f the English section of our paper in an effort to rectify the
resent weaknesses.
Ali clubs eleet ^delegates to the convention but allmem^

SO dön't be afraid tb speak up, otherwise nobody will

So, Sudbury has the welcome mat out and we hope you

In Liittojuhlas
Vancouver. — Tn past weeks
while reading. Club News reports on
Liittoj uhla preparations one would
frequehtly get;the yearning to pack
up and head for Sudbury.
Many of us out here in the West
have had that feeling, r m sure.^
The Sisu Folk Dancers, for, instance,
would be fhrilled to meet other
Finnish-Canadiän giroapd'pariicipä-ting
in the Liittoj uhla Concert. The
dancers have in their short life
span made many appearances but
of course the Liittojuhlas r— that
would really besomething. 1^::
• And höw about the track and field
people who are working out twice a
week in preparation for a meet on
August 19th at the Finnish Organi-zation
Picnic. It was this same
group which won: some glory for
the Vancouver Finnish Cömmunity
by capturing enough points at the'
Canada Day Youth- Sports Meet to
tie for first place. Their most note-worthy
achievement of the day was
winning the volley ball tournament.
The Canada Day meet and other
meets that Sisu willbe participating
in during the summer are good and
lots of fun —: but participating in
the Liittojuhlas would be iomething
else entirely. It;would really be
somelhing to be able to meet Yritys
or Isku on the volley bäll court
or to be able to run against top
Finnish-Canadian athletes from ali
over Ontario. Win or lose, that
would really be something..
But this year it must remain as
a happy thought. The best that we
can do at this time is to wish ali
Liittojuhla participants the best of
luck in a very big and successful
affair.
.We from the West Coast will be
with you only in spirit for the time
being. Perbaps in the future our
hopes can be realized. — HL
