Dear Sir:
I am writing in response to
an article in the Toronto
Star, Saturday 28 November
1981 titled "Yugoslav Assa-sin- s
here — Author". -
First, I wish to register a
strong protest taht such an
article was written with no
facts to back up the repor-ter's
statements, on the
contrary evidence complete-ly
disproves the allegations
made by Mr. Hans Peter
Rullman.
The terrorist groups in
Canada and the United Sta-tes
are known to the authori-ties
and some of their mem-bers
have been tried and
sentenced . for their illegal
activities.
The terrorists have extor-ted
money, killed Canadian
and American citizens, bom-bed
and burned buildings of
Yugoslav Canadian commu-nity
and Yugoslav Canadian
press, including our own
newspaper building. Some of
the victims of their crimes I
personally know and they
were my friends.
Terrorists also attacked
Consulates and highjacked
planes. These terrorists are
expatriates from Yugoslavia
who bitterly hate their home-land
and are not agents
planted here by the Yugoslav
government as Mr. Rullman
in the Toronto Star categori-cally
state.
The terrorist aim is to fan
hatred terween Croatians
and Serbians so the terror-ists
can appear as National
defenders of their own parti-cular
state in Yugoslavia.
In Australia, the U.S.A.
and in West Germany such
terrorist groups have been
banned and many their me-mbers
tried and jailed for
their crimes.
In West Germany Mr. Rull-man
may be able to indirec-tly
defend terrorist groups
by writing articles and books
exonerating them and laying
the blame elsewhere, but he
cannot do that in Canada,
that should not be permi-tted,
where we have a law
against dissemination of ha-te
literature.
Croatians and Serbians do
not hate each other. History
has shown that all conflicts
are instigated by an outside
enemy as was in the last war
where it was in the interest
of Hitler and Musolini to set
brother against brother. To
that end Mr. Rullman's wr-itings
are directed and the
Toronto Star states that he
"spent 12 year in Yugoslavia
on assignment for Der Spie-gel".
Did Joe Serge of the
Toronto Star know thar Mr.
Rullman was tried and sen-tenced
in 1971 in Yugosla-via
to six years as a spy?
Canadians who unders-tand
historical events know
that many war criminals fled
their countries and came to
Canada to avoid paying for
their crimes. Of course some
came from Yugoslavia and it
was in their interest to
denounce Yugoslavia and try
to set up Nationalist groups
to fan the hatred against
someone else. The Federal
Government has recognized
that war criminals are still
present In Canada and Mr.
Kaplan recently called for an
effort to seek out and deal
with any war criminals.
What I cannot understand
is that a Canadian newspa-per
as the Toronto Star can
so gullibiy and naively take
as a fact Rullman's remarks
that these terrorists attacks
were the work of outside
provocateurs and not of a
few nationalist extremists.
By his comments Mr. Rull-man
would have as to belei-v- e
that Canadians from diffe-rent
Yugoslav nationalities
all hate each other, thus
justifying his reason for
being in this country.
Canada has already ba-nned
hatemongering perso-ns
such as Zlatko Markus, as
mentioned in the article in.
question. Then why is Hans
Peter Rullman allowed here
and why given publicity by
the Toronto Star, when it is
know he was coming to
speak "to the same groups
that Markus was not allowed
to address?
Canada is a country which
is already on its way to being
model of integration and
tolerance for the world of the
future. It has integrated pe-ople
from many nationaliti-es,
cultures, languages and
